Il Gin

Gin is a clear spirit that is distilled from grain or malt and flavored with juniper berries and other botanicals such as coriander, angelica root, orris root, fig leaves and citrus peel.

The distillation process is meant to provide a pure and concentrated flavor of these botanicals. Used in a variety of drinks and blended, it imparts a unique taste and aroma to the drink.

Originally developed in the Netherlands in the 17th century as a medicinal spirit, gin has since become a beloved base for many cocktails, including the classic gin and tonic, martini and negroni.

GIN DELL ‘ORTO LONDON DRY GIN

London Dry Gin is produced through the distillation in a single solution of all the botanicals listed, including juniper, coriander, fig leaves, basil, almond, lemon and lemongrass. These botanicals are infused for about 12 hours inside the alembic and then distilled all together. During the distillation, a higher quality alcohol with an alcohol content of at least 70% is used. This process gives London Dry Gin a dry, clean taste profile.

GIN DELL’ ORTO ITALIAN DRY GIN

Italian Dry Gin uses the same gin base, but the botanicals are distilled individually instead of being distilled all together. Furthermore, an infusion of fig leaves is added which gives the gin not only organoleptic characteristics, but also a distinctive colour. The alcohol used for the Italian Dry Gin comes from very pure wheat of agricultural origin and has a high degree of purity, with less than 1 gram of methanol per hectolitre.

In summary, the botanicals used are the same, the difference lies in the distillation method (in a single solution for the London Dry Gin and individually for the Italian Dry Gin) and in the addition of an infusion of fig leaves in the Italian Dry Gin to give organoleptic characteristics and a specific colour.
